Once an Aggie, Always an Aggie: A Former Student’s Guide to Honoring the Corps

Once an Aggie, Always an Aggie: A Former Student’s Guide to Honoring the Corps

Howdy.

If you know what it means to "Saw Varsity’s Horns Off," if you’ve stood for the 12th Man, and if you proudly wear the Aggie Ring, you know that Texas A&M isn't just a university. It’s a lifetime commitment.

For those who spent their years in College Station as members of the Corps of Cadets, that bond goes even deeper. You survived the Quad, you earned your boots, and you marched in Final Review.

Today, you might be a military officer, a business leader, or an engineer. You’ve traded the uniform for a suit or scrubs. You wear your Ring every day as a symbol of that shared experience.

But where is your saber?

For many Former Students, the saber carried during that senior year—or the Army Officer Sword acquired upon commissioning—is sitting in a cardboard box in the attic or leaning in the back of a gun safe. It’s a symbol of "Ol' Army" that deserves better.

Here is how to bring a piece of the Quad into your home office or den with the sophistication your career demands.

1. Matching the Decor to the Degree: The Universal Upgrade

When you were a cadet, "decor" probably meant whatever fit in your dorm room. Now, you’ve built a life and a home. You have a nice desk, maybe some leather furniture, and a professional atmosphere.

A cheap plastic sword mount doesn't fit that aesthetic.

We designed our Universal Sword Display for the established Former Student. It moves away from the "barracks" look and offers fine woodworking that complements a mature home.

Black Walnut: This deep, rich finish is the perfect match for a traditional study, looking right at home next to your framed diploma and mahogany desk.

Natural Maple: Clean and bright, this finish fits perfectly in modern offices in Houston or Dallas.

Cognac: Our classic finish that honors the traditional leather and wood tones of military heritage.U.S. Army Officer Sword Display, handcrafted from solid wood with a personalized engraved nameplate.

Our Dedicated Army Officer Display: Precision-crafted for the regulation Army Officer Saber (often carried by commissioning cadets), finished in our signature Cognac stain for a classic look that complements the Aggie tradition.

Whether you have your Cadet Saber or an Army Officer Sword, the Universal design cradles it securely and stylishly.

2. Repping Your Outfit

Ask an Aggie what year they are, and they’ll tell you. Ask a Corps member what Outfit they were in, and they’ll tell you with even more pride.

Our laser-engraved nameplates allow you to immortalize that specific identity. Don't settle for a generic plaque. Create a tribute to your specific time in Aggieland:

John Smith '05

Company E-2

Corps of Cadets

This small detail turns the display into a time machine, instantly bringing back memories of Midnight Yell and the camaraderie of your buddies.

3. The "Aggie Corner"

You probably already have a spot for your Aggie memorabilia—a shelf with a specialized humidors for your Ring, maybe a piece of the goalpost, or a framed photo of Kyle Field.

Mounting your saber horizontally above this area ties it all together. It serves as the anchor for your collection, a visual reminder of the leadership training that set the foundation for your success.

4. For the Commissioned Officer: The Coin Display

Engraved challenge coin display handcrafted from solid maple wood, shown holding a collection of military coins on a desk.

If your time in the Corps led to a career in the military, you have a second story to tell. Your challenge coins represent the chapters written after you left College Station.

A Solid Maple Coin Display allows you to showcase the coins from your deployments and commands alongside your A&M coins. It bridges the gap between your education and your service to the nation.

The Spirit of Aggieland is something that never fades. You earned your place in the Corps. You earned the right to carry the saber. Don't let that symbol hide in the dark. Display it with pride.
