Get the Perfect Fit: How to Measure Your Sword for a Blades Raised Display

Get the Perfect Fit: How to Measure Your Sword for a Blades Raised Display

You've decided to give your cherished military sword or saber the place of honor it deserves on the wall. That's a fantastic decision! But before you click "Add to Cart," there's one crucial step: ensuring you order the right size display.

Military swords aren't one-size-fits-all. They are specifically sized to the height of the individual wearing them, ensuring the proportions are correct when worn as part of the uniform. This means taller service members have longer swords, and shorter service members have shorter swords. Some models even come in up to 9 different available blade lengths!

At Blades Raised, we want your sword to look perfectly framed and securely mounted. That's why we offer most of our displays in two lengths: Short and Long. Choosing the correct size is simple, and this guide will walk you through exactly how to do it, even if you're trying to pull off a surprise gift.

Why Does Size Matter?

With such a wide range of potential sword lengths, getting the display size right is important. Our displays are designed so that the length complements the blade, creating a visually balanced and aesthetically pleasing presentation. A display that's too short might make a long sword look awkward, while one that's too long can dwarf a shorter blade. Getting the size right ensures the focus remains on the sword itself, perfectly framed by the handcrafted wood.

Method 1: The Best Way - Measure the Blade Directly

This is the most accurate method and guarantees a perfect fit. It only takes a minute.

  1. Gather Your Tools: You'll need the sword/saber itself and a standard tape measure.

  2. Identify the Measurement Points: You want to measure the BLADE ONLY. Start at the very top edge of the handguard (where the blade meets the handle assembly) and measure in a straight line down to the very tip of the blade.

  3. Record the Length: Note the measurement in inches.

Crucial Tip: Do NOT include the handle (hilt) or any part of the scabbard (the sheath) in your measurement. We are only interested in the length of the exposed steel blade itself.

  1. Compare to Our Sizing: Now, go to the product page for the specific Blades Raised display you're interested in (like our dedicated Navy or Coast Guard models). In the product description, you will find the blade length range listed for both the Short and Long options (e.g., "Short: Fits blades 28-32 inches").

  2. Select Your Size: Choose the display length (Short or Long) whose range includes your blade measurement.

That's it! Measuring directly ensures you get the ideal fit for your specific sword.

Method 2: The Gift-Giver's Guide - The "Clandestine Mission"

Buying a sword display as a surprise gift? We know trying to get that exact blade measurement can feel like a clandestine mission! You might have to rely on asking another family member or friend for help, adding uncertainty to the process. This fear of getting the size wrong keeps many people from giving a unique and meaningful gift like a sword display.

We wanted to make it easier and remove that fear. That's why we chose to offer just two display sizes (Short and Long) for our dedicated models – they are specifically designed to accommodate the vast majority of regulation sword lengths beautifully.

And because regulation swords are sized based on the wearer's height, you can make a very reliable estimate using this simple rule:

The 6-Foot Rule of Thumb:

If the service member is under 6' (six feet) tall: Select the SHORT display length.

If the service member is 6' (six feet) tall or taller: Select the LONG display length.

This method works very well for most regulation swords and takes the guesswork out of a surprise gift when ordering one of our specific models.

The "Slam Dunk" Solution: The Universal Sword Display

Still worried about getting the size exactly right, especially for a gift or an older heirloom sword? We have the perfect solution.

Our Universal Sword Display was specifically designed to accommodate virtually ALL regulation military swords, regardless of length. Its clean, versatile design ensures that any sword or saber will be displayed securely and with distinction.
